It looks genuine, although lacking a photo, but then again, Shen Wei hasn’t had much experience with marriage certificates. “You-that’s-you have a what?” Shen Wei, utterly baffled, snatches the document out of Zhao Yunlan’s grasp and stares at it. Then, the meaning of the entire sentence kicks in, just as Zhao Yunlan dangles an official-looking certificate in front of Shen Wei’s face. Miraculously, the first phrase that sticks out to Shen Wei is ‘husband’, only because at this point he’s more-or-less become desensitized to Zhao Yunlan calling him ‘wife’ in front of everyone they know, and the change in phrase makes him pause for a moment. “And to think,” he sighs dramatically, “I went through all this trouble to procure a marriage certificate, and my husband won’t even ask me about it!” Zhao Yunlan pouts, slinging one arm across Shen Wei’s shoulders and dragging him into a sideways embrace. “I’ve learned it’s best not to ask why you do certain things,” Shen Wei replies stiffly, but his glare softens into something fondly possessive as Zhao Yunlan crowds against him. “Aren’t you going to ask me why?” Zhao Yunlan whines, sliding off the couch and into Shen Wei’s personal space, waggling his eyebrows meaningfully. Shen Wei looks as if he’s contemplating slapping Zhao Yunlan, but he doesn’t, as he could obviously never bear to raise a hand against his beloved. “Not just my birth certificate,” the jackass head of the SID protests smugly, “I changed all my official government-issued IDs and papers too!” Zhao Yunlan is not, by any interpretation of those words, a ‘lesser man’. “What do you mean you altered your birth certificate.” Shen Wei’s exasperated glare would’ve sent any lesser man fleeing with his tail between his legs, or perhaps reduced him to a sobbing puddle, pleading for his life.
